Health Product Declarations /Other/Medeco/2_Header/Sustainability.jpg Growing concerns over chemical hazards in buildings has prompted many large architecture firms to request Health Product Declarations (HPDs) from building product manufacturers. HPDs disclose the potential chemical concerns of products against various “hazard” lists in accordance with the Health Product Declaration Standard. This open standard was developed to provide a consistent reporting format that increases the quality and availability of product content and health information. Green building guidelines and standards are continuously evolving to make buildings more efficient, productive and healthier for the occupants within. This latter sustainability goal--healthier buildings--requires greater scrutiny of the elements that go into a building. As a result, a need has developed for Health Product Declarations (HPDs) that lists the material ingredients for each building product.
