Medeco Wins Two GOVIES Awards for Outstanding Government Security Products

Salem, Va. (March 31, 2017) Medeco Security Locks, a division of ASSA ABLOY N.A., located in Salem, Va., was announced the winner of two GOVIES Awards by Security Today magazine. The awards honor outstanding government security products in a variety of categories.

Medeco won in the Access Control Devices/Peripherals – Wireless category for the Medeco XT Slim Line B Key with XT Air app; and, in the Locks and Locking Systems category for the Medeco XT Dual-Tech Cylinder.

“The Medeco XT Slim Line B key with Bluetooth (BLE) technology and its companion XT Air application takes the concept of ‘intelligent keys’ to a whole new level,” said Gene Cronin, Medeco XT and Aperio product line manager. “Administrators now have the option of programming keys from any location within a cellular coverage area. There's no need to ‘dock the key’ with a USB tether or directly to a programming device in order to program a key's access schedule or to view audit trail information.  All an administrator needs to do is click on the app on a Smartphone or tablet to access the latest XT Web Manager software, and immediately upload or download data as desired.”

The XT Air app is available for Android and iOS platforms and connects directly to the XT Web Manager, allowing administrators to complete any one of five different functions: unlock cylinders, electronically remove SFIC cores, program the lost key list in cylinder, upload audit data from cylinders and transfer to the XT database, and collect audit information from cylinders in the system.

The other Medeco award winner—the patent-pending Medeco XT Dual-Tech retrofit cylinder—was designed for both accountability and rapid-entry applications. It combines two cylinder technologies in one mortise housing—the Medeco XT electronic cylinder and the Medeco X4 mechanical cylinder.

“Imagine a store owner who wants to leverage all the features that the Medeco XT Intelligent Key System offers his business—including remote electronic scheduling and auditing,” said Cronin. And yet, should there be a need for rapid entry—let’s say a fire or suspected break-in after hours—you want a way for emergency responders to get inside quickly. The XT Dual-Tech Cylinder makes this possible. That’s because each cylinder operates independently and access is provided using either the XT electronic key or the X4 mechanical key. Having both options makes this cylinder ideal for an opening where rapid entry is necessary, and where the benefits of the XT intelligent key system are greatly needed.”

“The Govies is an amazing product recognition program whereby companies in the security industry can highlight their technology and solutions that work flawlessly within the government vertical,” said Ralph C. Jensen, editor in chief of Security Today magazine and securitytoday.com. “We received 28% more entries this year, which also corresponds with the need to provide better security options not only at the federal level but also at the state and municipal level of government. I believe these products and solutions only prove that the government relies heavily on the technology advances in the private sector.”
